News and notes from Primary day
Posted August 24th, 2010 by impalin
While we await the tallying of the ballots from coast to coast (and beyond, if you count the Aluetian Islands in Alaska), here are a few nuggets of election day news in the four states holding primaries today: In the Grand Canyon State of Arizona, J.D. Hayworth is predicting victory, while tempering that by suggesting that he will support incumbent Senator John McCain should Tuesday go as every poll seems to hint that it will. Some of his supporters, meanwhile, are less charitable towards the senior senator from Arizona: “The tea party movement saw what [McCain] did to J.D.
Norm Coleman Mulling Challenge To Michael Steele For RNC Chairmanship
Posted July 23rd, 2010 by impalin
UPDATED Former Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman has been quietly gauging support for a potential run for chairman of the Republican National Committee. Coleman, who lost his re-election bid to Al Franken (D) by the slimmest of margins, has been meeting in private with “multiple high-level GOP officials” in the past month, Politico reports. Politico’s Jonathan Martin sought comment from Coleman about his potential interest in the job — now held by embattled RNC chief Michael Steele — but the Minnesota Republican declined to offer specifics.

It was a great week for some Colorado newsmakers. Below, check out the Colorado Winners of the Week, and vote on who you think is the week’s biggest winner. And check out the Colorado Losers of the Week here. Tim Tebow: Not everyone was thrilled when the Broncos selected Tebow in the first round of the NFL draft last weekend. The only certainty surrounding the former Florida quarterback, many argued at the time, was that he would make a lot of money off of endorsement deals.

Marketing and public relations experts say what the company does in coming days will be key to preserving its image. Glenn Bunting, managing director for the Los Angeles-based crisis management firm Sitrick and Co. said SeaWorld needs to respond promptly and proactively. “They need to review every safety precaution,” he said. “They need to explain how it happened, why it happened and make sure it doesn’t happen again to reassure the public.” The company stumbled during its first post-attack press conference.
Jackson Williams: U.S. Senator Hutchison And Governor Perry Lose Televised Debate To Texas Tea Partier
Posted January 15th, 2010 by impalin
One of the nation’s more closely watched races in 2010, the March Republican primary for Governor of Texas, pits a sitting U.S. senator, Kay Bailey Hutchison, against a sitting governor, Rick Perry. Judging by their first encounter Thursday night, broadcast statewide on PBS and nationally on C-SPAN2, they both lost to a Tea Party darling named Debra Medina. A gun totin’ and property rights supportin’ libertarian-Republican from the boondocks, Medina came off like Dick Cheney’s long lost twin sister.
Taylor Marsh: Sarah Palin Taps Into Tea Partiers
Posted January 10th, 2010 by impalin
Sarah’s the Tea Party queen of 2010. But are they a third party movement, Republican pest or Democratic gift? Who knows? But they’re representative of the mood out there right now, which is also hitting Martha Coakley in Massachusetts . Just don’t worry about Sarah Palin, because she’s got this all mapped out. Tea Party convention is in, but CPAC is out. Going rogue has paid off so far so why should Sarah stop now? The first time I heard about their convention it was through an ad on a conservative blog.

Posted December 8th, 2009 by impalin
Establishment Republicans, take notice. The Tea Party is about to steal your thunder. According to a poll by Rasmussen Reports , likely voters in the 2010 congressional elections would rather cast a ballot for a candidate bearing the Tea Party brand than one on the Republican line. In a national survey of likely voters, Rasmussen asked respondents to choose their favored political party for the congressional contests in what pollsters call a generic ballot.

Posted December 3rd, 2009 by impalin
Joe Scarborough could be a great Republican presidential candidate in 2012, according to Republican strategist and media adviser Mark McKinnon. McKinnon appeared on Hardball With Chris Matthews Wednesday to talk about Mike Huckabee’s viability as a candidate in the 2012 presidential race in the wake of Sunday’s shootings . After arguing that Huckabee could not and would not win the presidency, McKinnon floated the names of Republican leaders who he believes could compete against President Obama in 2012.
